Mission Statement

Together we transform the lives of low-income homeowners by improving the safety and health of their homes and revitalizing their communities.

What do we do?

Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh believes everyone deserves a home that is both safe and healthy. Since its humble beginnings in 1993, Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh has repaired and rehabilitated over 2 thousand homes for qualifying homeowners across Allegheny County—providing over $13 million in services and coordinating more than 24 thousand volunteers.

Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh repairs and renovates the homes of low-income elderly homeowners, military veterans, and individuals with permanent physical disabilities in Allegheny County. Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh helps homeowners with a variety of health and safety repairs, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, flooring, plastering, painting, and safety modifications such as grab bars and handrails.

We also know that restoring homes and improving the lives of the homeowners has a direct impact on the surrounding community. While Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh works in homes all over Allegheny County, in the past few years, we have focused more on Impact Neighborhoods–communities in Pittsburgh left behind by the overall economic recovery. Our focus extends beyond the individual homeowner to revitalizing and stabilizing vulnerable neighborhoods and communities across the county. Working alongside representatives from these target communities, we are able to strategically and efficiently bring private resources and home repair expertise to aid in redevelopment and preservation efforts. Our 2015 Impact Neighborhoods include Hazelwood, the Hill District, Homewood, Wilkinsburg, Larimer, Penn Hills, Sharpsburg, and the West Pittsburgh and Hilltop regions.

Your company, church, or group can make a difference helping low-income homeowners by serving with Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh in a number of ways. Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh makes volunteering easy and meaningful. Our construction team explains and leads the repair projects on site. We provide tools, building materials, and safety equipment for the work day, as well as water, lunch and a t-shirt. While we receive substantial foundation and corporate funding, the reality is that it is not nearly enough to repair the number of houses we do yearly. We need other resources to fund the $3,000 to $20,000 we spend per project. Financial contributions from groups like yours are essential to continuing to provide free home repair services to our low-income home owners. Contact us to learn more about group volunteer and sponsorship opportunities.
